Ben Aston from People Managing People enumerates 12 employee engagement statistics people need to know in 2020, as these play a role in the relationship between a company and its employees. Employee engagement, which is different from employee happiness, is said to occur when a member of staff is emotionally invested in and committed to the business. Ben shares the following statistics: only 15% of employees around the world are actively engaged in the business, although in the US alone, engagement levels were at an all-time high in 2019. Latin America was found to have the highest levels of engagement, followed by Middle East North Africa (MENA), Asia-Pacific, North America, and Sub-Saharan Africa, with Europe having the lowest levels of employee engagement. Nonetheless, employee engagement levels were found to be steadily increasing over the years while the percentage of actively disengaged employees was decreasing. Hilton, Salesforce, and Wegman Food Markets, Inc. are the top three companies with the best employee engagement levels. While this may come as a surprise to some people, older employees were found to be more engaged compared to their younger counterparts, as well as women being more engaged than men. Undeniably, any business’ goal, aside from having satisfied customers or clients, would be to have engaged employees, as these are found to improve business outcomes. In fact, it actually costs the company when their employees are not actively engaged. In summary, boosting employee engagement within the company is good not just for the employees, but for the business as a whole.
